Picture of PUNAKHA DZONG during our visit on May 2018. That was a foggy morning that gave a visual retreat as a blanket below the mountains. The dzong is a stunning example of Bhutanese architecture in the 1600's. We were also blessed to witness the fully blossomed jacaranda tree infront of the DZONG. And we got to know that this tree will blossom in the summer only for few weeks. Thus we were completely excited TO experience this. The dzong is in the banks of pho chu river. The Punakha Dzong, also known as Pungtang Dewa chhenbi Phodrang, is the administrative centre of Punakha District in Punakha, Bhutan. Constructed by Ngawang Namgyal, 1st Zhabdrung Rinpoche, in 1637–38, it is the second oldest and second largest dzong in Bhutan and one of its most majestic structures.
